Current practice: no biometric processing #
Ride verifies driver identity using document review and verification photographs (selfies) captured at onboarding and, where enabled, before a driver goes online. Today, these photographs are stored securely and reviewed as images. Ride does not create, receive, or store biometric identifiers or biometric templates — no faceprints, no liveness scores, and no facial-geometry measurements. Ordinary photograph review is not biometric processing, and Ride will not label it as such.
If biometric verification is ever added #
Ride may in the future contract with an identity-verification provider that performs facial matching or liveness analysis. Before any such feature is activated, Ride will:
- Update this notice to identify the type of processing and its purpose.
- State whether Ride receives the underlying biometric template (the design intent is that only the provider processes templates).
- Publish the provider relationship, retention period, and deletion practice from verified contract terms.
- Collect explicit, separate consent before any biometric collection where required by law, recording the consent version and timestamp.
- Offer an alternative verification process where required by law.
- Apply jurisdiction-specific restrictions (some states regulate biometric data strictly).
Status #
This notice remains a feature-gated pre-launch document. It cannot become effective until Ride's biometric-processing determination is complete and, if a provider is engaged, the contract and data flow are verified.
