The rule #
Drivers must transport riders who travel with foldable wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, or other mobility devices that can be safely stored in the vehicle, and must provide reasonable assistance stowing them. Refusing a rider because of a mobility device violates the Nondiscrimination Policy.
What reasonable assistance means #
- Helping fold and stow the device in the trunk or cargo area.
- Allowing the rider time to board and exit safely.
- Returning the device to the rider at drop-off.
Limits #
- Drivers are not required to lift a rider, and must not attempt unsafe lifting or loading.
- A device may genuinely exceed a vehicle's storage capacity; a capacity-based inability to store a device safely is not a policy violation, but it must be real — and it is reviewed when reported.
- No disability surcharge, ever.
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles #
Ride does not currently offer a wheelchair-accessible-vehicle (WAV) ride type and does not claim WAV availability. If WAV service launches, availability will be published accurately.
Driver education and enforcement #
Drivers acknowledge this policy during onboarding. Reports of improper refusal are investigated and may lead to deactivation. Report through the in-app tools or ridebylamar.com/safety/report. Email support@ridebylamar.com or call (561) 542-7560.
